You’ve worked hard on your business. It’s growing, you’ve got lots of clients, a good online presence, and you’re looking to expand things further. But there’s only so much time in a day and you need some help.
Like most businesses with an online presence, you’ve heard other entrepreneurs talk about virtual assistants. They’ve hired VAs that have literally paid for themselves by the amount of time and work saved. Many say they can’t imagine life without their VAs.
But… there are the horror stories out there of VAs that require a lot of help to get off the ground. They don’t follow or understand directions, need a lot of hand holding, don’t get work done or create more work by having them than without!

Let me remove some of the mystery for you! I’ve run the gamut to find good clients (VAs have to search for clients too you know…), and I can tell you from experience what has worked well for me for finding my best and most long-term clients.
Referrals, referrals, referrals!
This has got to be the absolute best way to find an excellent virtual assistant. It’s so simple… Talk to other business owners!
Some of my best client relationships have grown out of a referral from another client. You’ll run into the occasional person who doesn’t want to share their VAs info because they want to keep them all to themselves, but for the most part, other business owners are happy to sing their VA's praises.
And since VAs are entrepreneurs themselves, you’ll find that a lot of VAs are members of entrepreneur groups on Facebook, like Think Creative Collective or Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income Community. These groups are great for getting decent referrals and potential applicants.
If you post in any of these groups that you’re looking for a VA and the types of tasks you need help with, you’re sure to get a lot of replies. I recommend only posting in one group to start with to see what kind of response you get.
Online Job Boards
Another good way of getting a good VA is by posting your VA job listing on a paid job board site, like HireMyMom.com or The Virtual Savvy (send your jobs via the contact form at the bottom of the page)
What’s great about these sites it that VAs actually pay to be able to view available job listings, so in theory they’d be more invested and serious about your business.
It’s important to note that these are only job sites. Think of them as VA classifieds. They will post your position for you, but they will not do any work to help you find a VA. It’s up to you to contact, interview, and select your VA.
